Portland cement based liner sprayed over basalt rebar.
Brierley Associates specified the use of Basalt Volcanic Rock Rebar for a Massachusetts Water Main Culvert restoration. Non-corroding, non-conductive basalt rebars are 2-3 times stronger in tension than steel and over 70% lighter.
Far easier to install, no sharp ends like steel, and the flexural capability of the basalt rebar allows it to conform to the shape readily. It bends like a fishing pole so when placed in a tunnel or shaft culvert it opens up to fit perfectly that shape.
A basalt mesh can be used along with the basalt rebar for an ultimate solution along with basalt micro or macro fibers in the concrete mix.
Basalt does not harbor bacterial or microbial growth so the microbes in wastewater do not eat it like steel. No spalling from chloride ingress like steel and decades longer lasting. Affordable, basalt can be shipped in coils hundreds of feet long that one person can pick up. It does not corrode.
